Assembling the Prog-03 Board
When assembling the Prog-03 PC board, it's important to install the parts in the correct order. First, insert the two resistors from the top of the board, and solder and snip the leads on the bottom of the board. Next, insert the long ends of the 2-pin and 3-pin male headers into a 400-point breadboard as shown in the following photo. Note: Make sure the breadboard is oriented as shown (power rails below ground rails). Place the Prog-03 on top of the headers so that the short ends of all 5 pins are inserted into the Prog-03, and solder the pins in place.
The stereo connector requires some modification before soldering it in place. In order to do this correctly, refer to the following photo, which shows two high-profile stereo connectors.
In the photo, the connectors are upside down and viewed from the back. The one on the left is unaltered; the one on the right has been modified. If you hold a connector in the same orientation, you will see a large black plastic support and a third pin between the pin on the left edge and the pin on the right edge of the connector. The support and the middle pin in the row need to be snipped off as close to the body of the connector as possible. In the photo, this has already been done to the connector on the right.
Before soldering the stereo connector in place, you may want to clean the flux from the top of the board. When you have done that, insert the stereo connector from the top of the board and solder its three pins on the bottom of the board. Finallynip the excess leads, and clean the excess flux from the bottom of the board.
Testing the Completed Prog-03 Board
To test the completed Prog-03, just assemble a "Hello Word" circuit similar to the one shown in the photo below, and write a simple program to blink the LED.
