PICAXE Robotics
Closely intertwined with my interest in electronics and programmable microcontrollers is my fascination with the field of amateur robotics. For almost twenty years now, I have been building small autonomous robots that inhabit my basement and generally make a nuisance of themselves. My final project in the digital electronics sequence of my Electrical Engineering Technology program was to design and build "Homer," my most ambitious robotics project to date. Recently, Homer had an offspring, whom I christened "BART" (what else! :-), an acronym which stands for "BASIC Amateur Robotics Toy."
Homer and BART
The September and October (2007) issues of SERVO Magazine contain my two-part article on the construction of "M-bot," an autonomous robot using the 8-pin PICAXE-08M microcontroller as its only processing power.
